I had about the best fried scallops I've ever eaten the other day at a place called Haddad's Ocean Cafe in the Brant Rock section of Marshfield. They were every bit as good as the ones I had at Moulton's in Medford awhile back. Are there any other places I should be seeking near Boston or along the New England coast that also has excellent fried scallops? I'm definitely willing to travel up to Maine or down to Connecticut if they are really good. [Go here to post a reply.]

I put Haddad's on my list to try based on your rave, Hidden Boston. It sounds a lot like another place I quite like: neighborhood-y, cheap, with excellent deep-frying technique. That would be Dube's in Salem, MA, tucked away in a little residential corner of town. Excellent whole-belly fried clams, too, and a room that looks like it hasn't changed in 50 years. Cozy, friendly little local place, still serving pitchers of beer, a bargain.

I think I recall seeing Dube's before, MC. That's near Salem State, isn't it? I may have to get over there for dinner one of these nights. Thanks for the suggestion!

Another Dube's fan here! Yes, it's on Jefferson Ave. - kinda sorta near Salem State.
