*****Peter OB from Wells, VT, says:
Great ambiance, great food at a terrific price.
Mark and Margaret are fun and classy. How often do you get the owner of a restaurant to come out and please the crowd with a great rendition of Mac the Knife. The owners rock, the two fireplaces are cool and going there is a great experience.

The Barn is one of the reasons I keep coming back to Vermont. Every experience I have had there is both magical and homey. The menu is fantastic. I would recommend the duck to anyone. The prices are extremely reasonable and, as a serious NYC food snob, I can say the quality of the food is EXCEPTIONAL. Thank you so much for your wonderful restaurant, Mark and Margaret!

The restaurant is one of my favorites but we had a wedding shower on the new deck and the waitress was very bad!!!! This is my first bad experience at a GREAT RESTAURANT!!! We have dealt with Mrs Duel and never had a bad experience!!! We asked for separate checks and that was frowned on. We had to wait for ever for steak sauce-one steak Filet Mignon was horrible!!! Drinks we ordered took forever. I understand busy but this was unforgivable for such A GREAT RESTAURANT!!!! I was looking to get Gift Cert. for our friends but didn't get them as the service was mediocre and the food was too!! Becky Butler Wells Vt

Great food, great prices but the evening was spoiled because they could not (or would not separate the check, (it was for 15 people).

Have ate here many times - it's an excellent value: great food, great service, wonderful atmosphere all at pretty decent prices. The drive from Manchester, going Route 30 North to The Barn is absolutely beautiful.

*****BF from Diamond Point, NY, says:
I have had dinner in the Barn several times. It was great. However the last time we ate there this past Sunday my wife's birthday it was the worst service I have ever gotten in any restaurant in this country. In fact it was so bad the 6 of us got up and left. We at one time complained to the reception person to get the owners; neither Margaret or her husband didn't have the courtesy to come out to see what the problem was. The waitress we had didn't either speak or understand English.

Have gone there for years - and always been pleased with the food, the prices, the service and the ambiance. Eating in a barn has never been this good! Looking forward to when I can be there again.

We had a wonderful dinner. They were busy. The price was right and the portions regular sized. We used the money we saved and bought dessert!

*****J Brown from Salem says:
Overall our meals were good but the steak supposedly marinated in Stout had no flavor of stout. I would recommend rolls that are whole wheat or whole grain and rice or pasta of the same. Healthier and a nice choice to have. The portions were good though I miss a salad included. The atmosphere is always nice there and our waiter was very accommodating.

*****CAT from Fair Haven, VT, says:
A group of us went to dinner, the waitress was absent a lot, it was hard to get service, they ran out of mashed potatoes, we didn't get enough rolls for everyone, when the waitress cleared the table she spilled au jus sauce all over my blouse and barely apologized. We wouldn't be back.

On one of the busiest nights of the year I called and asked Mark, the owner, to surprise our daughter Aura, who was there with some old childhood friends - with a rousing rendition of happy birthday and a carrot cake. With his usual generous spirit - he did and boy did we hear about it when she and her brother arrived home. Thanks Mark and Margaret!

*****John Giordano from Cambridge, NY, says:
What makes The Barn Restaurant is not the good, honest, home-cooked food with a flair...it's not even the incredibly comfortable ambiance of "Wow! I'm eating a candlelit dinner in a huge ole antique barn with a rip-roaring fire in the hearth, both in the main dining room and the downstairs tavern that defines the word 'rustic'"....What does make the Barn is the spirit, love, and dedication of the owners Mark and Margaret McChesney and their two beautiful children...one leaves The Barn with the feeling of leaving the comfort of home....
