Outdoor Dining in New England?
(From Our Questions and Answers Feature)
What are some New England restaurants that have particularly nice outdoor dining areas? I was at one such place over the weekend (Lenny's in Branford, CT), and also love the outdoor area at the Lobster Pool in Rockport. Any really nice spots you like to go to that have outdoor dining along the ocean, on a lake or river, on a hillside, or perhaps in the woods? [Go here to post a reply.]

A little out of the way, but if you're on your way to Bar Harbor, it's worth a stop at the Union River Lobster Pot in Ellsworth, ME. Dining room is a screen porch on the Union River: http://www.lobsterpot.com/

Locally, the Blue Fin Lounge in Foxborough, MA. Great outdoor patio that overlooks, and leads to some scenic hiking trails around a pond, cranberry bogs and forested hills. Very good grilled sandwiches and salads. Given it's a lounge, there's a wide selection of adult beverages. The interior is nice, sort of like a rustic Adirondack lodge. Hard to believe this location is just off Route 1 at the very busy Patriot Place shopping and entertainment complex! A hidden gem in MetroWest would be Bullfinchs Restaurant on Rte. 20 in Sudbury (http://www.bullfinchs.com). With their seasonal outdoor patio, Bullfinchs is the perfect spot for enjoying their great food on a Girls Night Out or Date Night. Patio is lit with festive lighting and covered under an ivy arbor. Check them out!

My wife and I frequent Cafe Sol Azteca in Newton Centre during the summer months. Great authentic Mexican food, relaxed family-owned atmosphere, central location. My wife says it feels like you're dining in West Side Story because of the way the outdoor space is nestled between buildings. They also have Sangria to rival Tasca.
For traditional NE seafood shacks, Bob Lobster on Plum Island is a fun place to go for a good, fresh seafood lunch.
Also in Newburyport, The Black Cow is a great restaurant with a deck overlooking the river. High quality food, central location (walkable to downtown B&Bs), casual atmosphere, and great river watching.

Poco's in Portsmouth is great - margaritas to die for, good Mexican food, and if you sit outside on the covered dock, you can watch the tub boats roll up and down the Piscataqua River. It's a fav of mine. Plus the outside is smoke free so the food really shines thru!

121 Restaurant in Oxford, CT. Overlooking the runway at Waterbury-Oxford Airport. Always a breeze, cool jets and planes and maybe a Blackhawk making its way up from Sikorsky. Parking for cars or planes. One of the best sunsets in Connecticut! www.121oxford.com
