The REAL name of the place is "Nick's Original Coney Island Weiners." I was first introduced to Nick's by a friend from Fall River back in the 1980's. The place is an icon. Good dogs, great coney sauce. Their fries are up there with the best I have ever had. Make sure you wash everything down with a coffee milk.

I used to sneak out my bedroom window on Hamlet St. to meet friends to go to Nick's. My kids and I cannot pass through Fall River without stopping or wanting to stop.

*****Chris from Norwich, NY (born in Fall River), says:
I remember Nicks when the old man was still there and yes, he did line them up his sweaty nasty arm. They say it enhanced the flavor - I think it did. All that said, I used to argue with my Dad (from Langley St.) I liked FaNeeks (remember all the clocks on the wall?), he said Nicks was better. They are both awesome and bring back my childhood. 35 cents a dog is what I remember my Dad paying. Now, I've told my girlfriend that next time were in town, she's gonna try Nicks AND FaNeeks. She's scared. You'd think a NY native would KNOW coney island dogs huh? *lol*
Btw - to the poster that mentioned Shoobs - Thanks man, THAT was as huge memory too - learned guitar there from Jimmy.
TRY THE DOGS - Nicks or FaNeeks - the rest are just posers!

I grew up in the Fall River area and from talking to my grandfather, he loved those hot dogs as much as I do now.
When I was 19, I taught at Shoob Music which was right next door to Nicks and used to eat there every Saturday for lunch.
I've eaten hot dogs from other places in Southern New England but none and I mean NONE compare to Nicks.
Go there and try them, excellent eats!

I lived in Fall River in the 70's; Dirty Nicks was the place to go for the best Coney Island Hot Dogs in Fall River. I have been there a few times since I moved to Florida and they are still the best. I miss those Dogs.

*****Chiccy from Acushnet, MA, says:
Been going there since 1965, and yes Dirty Nicks is how I know it. I'll tell ya what, they have the best hot dogs in the world. I had to laugh, my boss about a month ago brought on 24 coney island dogs for the crew and myself of course. We lightly heated them in the microwave. And they tasted as good as they were just made! It just blew my mind that he brought them in.
The best I ever had, and I know a good coney dog when I taste one!

I have to comment on the person who said that JJ has a better hot dog. It has to be the owner; their dogs are the worst I have ever eaten. Half the time they are not cooked and the sauce tastes like sandpaper. The buns are either hard or wet. Like I said it has to be the owner to put Nicks down; they are by far heads and toes the best ever. I don't know the owner of Nicks so I'm not a friend; please don't compare JJ with Nicks.

*****Gagger-saurus from The Riv says:
It was called Dirty Nicks cuz then-owner would line up the dogs up the underside of his arm. To be honest, J&Js across the street is much better, as is about 4 others in the city. Nicks is OK if you're nostalgic 'bout the Fall River of yesteryear, but the place (like much of downtown) leaves something to be desired.

What happened to Jerry who owned Nicks in the 1980's and 1990's? New guy has a bit of an attitude!!!

Nicks hot dogs are the best you will ever find. I have been going there since I was a child doing a paper route in the area. I have traveled many places in Mass and the US but have never found a Coney dog that compares to theirs. Beside dogs there are many new things on the menu including seafood, chourice and peppers and my favorite sweet potato french fries. Nicks is definitely worth the stop not only for good food but great service. Keep up the good work.

My husband and I go there every Friday for the fish and chips and the scallop plate. It is simply delicious! It is light and airy and the portions are huge. He offers specials like Portuguese steak, lobster casserole and such. And the hot dogs are the best! If you get a chance go there.

I moved away from Fall River in 1956 and from time to time we get back to Fall River, and Nick's is the first place we go to. There is no hot dog in the US like it.

I do a lot of traveling. Had a hunger for a Coney Island hot dog, put it in to the GPS and up popped Nicks in Fall River. Best stop I ever made; had one, then 3 more and 4 more to go. I will be making that stop often now forever. -Tom

Years ago a friend worked at (Dirty) Nicks in FR... He said the real secret to the "gagger" sauce was that they added very strong black coffee to the mix... I've been making it with coffee ever since (not too much though).

*****J V from Newport, RI, says:
Everyone's talking about the best hot dog (Nicks, Nicks), so I drove 15 miles to see what they were talking about. Well, if you like hot dogs you will fall in love. They are GREAT. You have to try the french fries; no one told me about them. It was worth the drive; I will be back, that is for sure. -J V

I live in Florida now but my grandparents lived right around the corner from Nick's. Everyone in the family will tell you it is the best place for a coney dog. Every time we go home to visit it is a guaranteed stop!

Just moved to Fall River from Avon, MA. Had Nicks fish and chips, out of this world. Had a hot dog, never had anything that good. The sauce is the best I ever had. I tried two others since then; NO NO. Nicks by far the best, you just can't eat one.

*****Tom from Fall River, MA, says:
I'm 77 years old and have been eating at Nicks for 65 years. The hot dogs and sauce are better than ever. You go anywhere but Nicks and shame on you; there is nothing they don't have and it is all great.

*****Bob from New Bedford, MA, says:
We have at least 6 coney hot dogs in New Bedford; none comes anywhere near Nick's in Fall River. The sauce is out of sight; they even have a hot sauce. To me and my frends they the best in the USA. (BOB, 47 YEARS OLD, FROM NEW YORK NOW IN NEW BEDFORD.)

*****G.M. from Westport, MA, says:
Years ago it was the best but through the years the hot dogs have changed and so has the sauce. Went there last week for a couple...not so hot. Fall river has many others that are better.

*****Jeanne L from Maine says:
I grew up eating Nick's hot dogs and even got my youngest daughter addicted to them years later. I'd take orders at lunch time and walk over from St. Anne's Hosp. I always went back on visits to MA after moving to Maine but when I moved to Virginia a year ago you couldn't find hot dog rolls with the slit on top let alone anything called or close to steamed hot dogs or decent. I had to move back to Maine to be civilized again and my next trip to MA I will be at Nick's. Thanks for the best hot dogs in the world.

*****TV from Los Angeles, CA, says:
I've traveled all over the world looking for a Coney Island hot dog that's better than Nick's and it just doesn't exist.
I grew up near Nick's and now whenever I travel back east I make it a point to stop in and eat 5 dogs. Seriously, you can't eat 1. The sauce is the best you'll ever have. Understated and delicious.
Definitely a must go to. Just ask the 3 stooges!!!
