Saporito's Florence Club Cafe in Hull

One word: "GO." After looking at a faded Boston Globe review of Saporito's on our fridge door for about 3 years, my wife and I finally went down to Hull a few months ago and we loved it. Great little place w/ terrific atmosphere, great service and delicious food.

(Posted by JSJoyce in Hidden Restaurants of Boston and New England forum)

My favorite clam shacks?

This year I finally tried whole belly clams. The experiences kept getting better and better and I eventually made the switch from strips to exclusively whole belly. Last fall, I took up skimboarding. I combine it with bodysurfing. If there are no waves, I can skimboard. If I'm skimboarding and I notice a good set coming in, I can throw my skimboard up on the beach and run in and grab the wave. Anyway, fried clams and skimboarding have put me on the North Shore a lot this summer. I just wanted to mention the clam shacks that I've been checking out.

(Posted by Joshua B in New England Restaurants -- General Discussion forum)

Ironside Grill, Charlestown

A group of us went to the Ironside Grill in Charlestown. I was surprised as to how upscale the menu was, as well as how nicely they fixed the place up. I ordered a Monte Christo with fries; the Monte Christo came with maple syrup, which was a nice touch. Overall, it was a pretty good sandwich, though the Monte Christo at Zaleks in Wakefield is better, IMO.

(Posted by hiddenboston in Hidden Restaurants of Boston and New England forum)

Ice Cream at J.J.'s, Cohasset

Last night we were coming back from Scituate, looking for an icre cream stand, and finally found a place in Cohasset called J.J.'s. The soft serve was good, though I think that Dairy Barn in Randolph is better. Nice place, though, in the middle of nowhere on Route 3A, and several tables off to the side where you can hang out.

(Posted by hiddenboston in Hidden Restaurants of Boston and New England forum)

Is Shalimar of India in North Conway a Decent Place to Eat?

I heard a lot of advertising for Shalimar of India when I was in North Conway, NH, this past weekend. I also read some pretty good reviews of the restaurant when I got back last night. How does it compare to Indian restaurants in the Boston area? Is the food decent enough to choose it over other restaurants in and around North Conway?

(Posted by hiddenboston in Hidden Restaurants of Boston and New England forum)

Breakfast at Captain Fishbones, Marina Bay (Quincy)

We went to Captain Fishbones in the Marina Bay section of Quincy this morning for breakfast. It was too hot and sunny outside, even at 9:30 in the morning, so we opted to grab a table indoors. The breakfast wasn't bad at all, as the breakfast burrito was tasty and filling, and the breakfast potato skins (yes, breakfast potato skins) were pretty good, too.

(Posted by hiddenboston in Hidden Restaurants of Boston and New England forum)

Great Cheesesteak at T.C. Lando's in Hudson

We hit T.C. Lando's in Hudson over the weekend. Their steak and cheese sub was one of the best I've had in the Boston area, and about as good (though different) as the ones I've had at Doogies in Newington, CT (the best I've had anywhere). Are the cheesesteaks at the T.C. Lando's in Acton and Tory's in Leominster just as good as the ones at T.C. Lando's in Hudson? And are they about the same as Carl's in Waltham? I know that Carl's, Tory's, and T.C. Lando's are all under the same ownership umbrella...

(Posted by hiddenboston in Hidden Restaurants of Boston and New England forum)

Polynesian Restaurants in the Boston Area

All right, I know that Polynesian restaurants tend to be tacky and cheesy, and the food is sometimes pretty bad (and really bad for you), but I kinda like going to these places, maybe because they bring back memories of my youth. I know all about Kowloon in Saugus and Bali Hai in Lynnfield, and I've heard of the Tahiti Restaurant in Dedham. Are there any others in the Boston area that I'm forgetting? Let me know so I can get to one or two of them!

(Posted by hiddenboston in Boston Restaurants -- General Discussion forum)

Which Sub Shops in the Boston Area Serve Good Italian Pizza?

As most Bostonians know, the vast majority of sub shops in the Boston area specialize in Greek pizza rather than thin-crust, Italian pizza. There are definitely exceptions, though, such as Stella's in Watertown and Sabatino's in Arlington.
