Charities, Nonprofits, Foundations: Ways to Help

The Ella J. Baker House
A nonprofit, faith-based organization based in the Dorchester neighborhood of Boston, the Ella J. Baker House helps high-risk youths and their families through neighborhood outreach as well as a community youth center. The Ella J. Baker House was started by the Azusa Christian Community and is led by Reverend Eugene F. Rivers, a Boston pastor who also is President of the National Ten Point Leadership Foundation. The organization is open to all people, no matter what their religious affiliation.

Friends of Boston's Homeless
A nonprofit corporation that works with the Boston Public Health Commission, the Friends of Boston's Homeless helps people in a variety of ways, including programs, advocacy, and education designed to help the homeless gain independence from shelters. They also provide public relations and fundraising programs designed in part to educate people on the plight of the homeless.

Give Us Your Poor
Give Us Your Poor is an grassroots organization formed to help show the plight of the homeless in the United States. The organization hopes to raise awareness through a documentary as well as community outreach and education. Bringing It Home, a fundraising and awareness building community, is a part of Give Us Your Poor. Bringing It Home allows people within a community to learn how to support a grassroots fundraising and awareness-building community created to help the homeless in Boston and other places.

Homes for Families
Based in Boston, Homes for Families is an advocacy organization created to end family homelessness. Homes for Families hopes to achieve this goal through partnerships, participation by parents, and studying root causes of homelessness in Massachusetts, including high housing costs and inadequate incomes.

The Jimmy Fund
The Jimmy Fund supports the fight against cancer at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, helping to raise the chances of survival for children and adults with cancer around the world. Since 1948, thousands of events, coupled with the generosity of millions of people, have helped the Jimmy Fund save countless lives by furthering cancer research and care at Dana-Farber.

The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation
The Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation is a foundation whose Web site, komen.org, includes information on the latest research findings, outreach programs, events, news, volunteer opportunities, and forums, as well as information on breast health and breast cancer.

The Red Sox Foundation
The Red Sox Foundation is the team's 501c3 charity for the Red Sox philanthropic outreach. Funded by donations from the team's owners and partners and through funds raised at special events, The Red Sox Foundation is focused on assisting children in New England in four areas -- education, recreation, health and inner city social services. The four cornerstone programs of the Red Sox Foundation are: The Jimmy Fund, the Teen Center at Dimock Community Health Center in Roxbury, The Red Sox Scholars programs for 6th graders in Boston public schools and the team's youth baseball programs including the RBI and Rookie Leagues.
