Five Highly-Anticipated Winter Restaurant Openings

Logo of Villa Mexico, Boston, MAOver the past six months or so, some very big restaurant openings have taken place, including such spots as Yvonne's in downtown Boston, Pepe's Pizza in Chestnut Hill, Wahlburgers in the Fenway, and Branch Line in Watertown. Now the winter is here, and while there aren't quite as many highly-anticipated places on the way, there are some very interesting-sounding restaurants that are hoping to open this winter. Five such spots are below, including a Mexican eatery that has been hoping to open for awhile now.

1) Villa Mexico, Boston
A Mexican spot that used to be housed in a Beacon Hill gas station, it had looked like Villa Mexico may open sometime this past summer or fall, but now it finally looks like the place is just about ready to open. Expect to see it debut in its new home on Water Street in January if all goes as planned. [Update: Now open.]
Address: 121 Water Street, Boston, MA, 02109.

2) SRV, Boston
A "Venetian bacaro" from the Coda Restaurant Group (Canary Square, Coda, Salty Pig), this casual bar that focuses on shareable plates, house-made pasta, and more is getting very close to opening in the South End. An opening during the first week of January is a distinct possibility, but keep checking back for updates. [Update: Now open.]
Address: 569 Columbus Avenue, Boston, MA, 02118.

3) Little Big Diner, Newton
David Punch of Sycamore in Newton Centre is getting ready to open a tiny eatery nearby where "east Asian soul food diner meets izakaya." While the dining spot was initially looking to open this past summer, it is not yet open but could be debuting sometime in January or February. [Update: Now open.]
Address: 1247 Centre Street, Newton, MA, 02459.

4) C16, Quincy
The niece of renowned chef and restaurateur Barbara Lynch is getting ready to open a brand new restaurant in Quincy, and Kerri Lynch-Delaney is looking to bring back the legendary steak tips from the long-closed Quiet Man in South Boston (her father had owned that bar). Expect to also see pizza, house-made ice cream, and more at this spot, which hopes to open in early 2016. [Update: Not yet open, but its opening appears imminent.]
Address: 16 Cottage Ave, Quincy, MA, 02169.

5) Pink Samurai, Jamaica Plain
A "modern dumpling house" from Matt Cunningham (The Sinclair, Strip-T's, UpStairs on the Square), this upcoming restaurant looks to feature dumplings made in-house using locally-sourced ingredients and farm-raised meats. The Centre Street dining spot could be opening as soon as next week if all goes well. [Update: Not yet open, and it is not known when it might be opening.]
Address: 658 Centre St, Jamaica Plain, MA, 02130.

More new restaurants are being announced on an almost daily basis now, so stay tuned for more announcements of openings soon. [Image above from Villa Mexico.]
