Fall Foliage Restaurant Options in New England

Ahh, fall foliage in New England. Hordes of people come to the Northeast every fall to see the brilliant colors in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, and Rhode Island. But where to eat on your fall foliage road trip? Well, we have compiled a list of restaurants to stop at while leaf peeping. Included are old colonial restaurants, funky diners, and cozy spots that go hand in hand with fall foliage in New England. Many of these restaurants are little-known, and all are great places to dine at while on a foliage trip. Driving on the road to Parker's Maple Barn is nearly as fun as actually being at the restaurant, as you wind your way through hills covered with brilliant maple trees and past swiftly-moving rivers and streams. Even though this rustic breakfast place is only a bit more than an hour from Boston, Parker's Maple Barn indeed seems a world away.

It seems that everybody has driven past the huge sign with the pig on it in front of the Yankee Smokehouse at some point in their lives, but not all of them have stopped here. That's too bad, as this rib joint on Route 16 at the southern edge of the White Mountains is a classic spot. In addition to ribs, the Yankee Smokehouse also has great BBQ chicken, beef, and pork dishes.

Restaurants in Vermont

Bentley's is a great little restaurant in a village that seems like a living postcard. Woodstock is incredibly beautiful during foliage season, so be prepared for crowds at Bentley's. It is worth it, though, as this charming restaurant has excellent steaks, chicken, seafood, and sandwiches.

Now THIS is a true Boston's Hidden Restaurants favorite. In fact, we are hesitant to tell anyone about this gem of a diner on Route 9, a road famous for it's classic Vermont fall foliage. This diner has been around for a long time, and the menu has everything you could ask for in a top diner, including macaroni and cheese, meat loaf, and roast turkey dinners.

Eaton's Sugarhouse

Eaton's Sugarhouse is a low-key throwback of a restaurant just off of Route 89, which makes it a perfect stopping point for leaf peepers. All the classics are on the menu of this rustic restaurant, so make sure you bring a hearty appetite to Eaton's.

If you are one of the fortunate souls who has a chance to view fall foliage in Vermont's Northeast Kingdom, make sure you consider stopping at The Family Recipe in the center of Newport for a bite to eat. This friendly, inexpensive diner is a great spot to enjoy a burger or a hot dog and a huge hunk of pie before heading for some of the most rural parts of Vermont.

This romantic, cozy spot is not all that well-known to visitors to Stowe, which is perhaps one of the leaf-peeping capitals of the Northeast. For those who do know about the restaurant at the Foxfire Inn, however, it is a truly special place. The Italian food here is out of this world, yet it is reasonably priced.

And if you want to do some leaf peeping simply step out the door, as Pomfret is exceedingly gorgeous in the fall.
