Best Croissants in Boston?

Where do people go for the best croissants in the Boston area? Other than perhaps the Danish Pastry House in Medford, most of the really good croissants I've had have been outside of the Boston area, so I'm not sure which pastry shops or bakeries around Boston are the best for these items. How are the ones at Athan's in Brookline? How about the Buttery in the South End? [Go here to post a reply.]

I do not care for the ones at the Buttery-they don't have the dense texture I crave. I also find them a bit dry. South End Formaggio down the street has tastier ones. I also love the ones made by Canto 6 in JP. They have a stand at the Dewey Square farmers' market. Canto 6's are delicious.

Try Temptations on Huntington Ave By Northeastern and the YMCA. They're homemade and delicious!

This is a delicate issue for me. Au bon Pain's croissants.... well if that has your favorite croissant I don't know if I can save you. Actually before I went to Paris I may have said that they were good and maybe they are; however, if you want croissants that will blow your mind there is only one place I know of that will do. Since I've been to Paris, I hate Au Bon Pain. Now for the moment you've been waiting for, I will disclose to you the secret that is well hidden. The best place and the only place that has decent croissants that I know of is at the Elephant Walk in Brookline. TRUST me, if you have never been to Paris this will change your life and your entire idea of what a croissant should be. Now go there if you want to live to see a TRUE croissant before you die.

The best croissants I've had in the area are from Quebrada Bakery in Arlington. They are buttery and flaky and not too dense. If you go early you might get one fresh out of the oven, as they are baked daily.
